I’m sorry but I didn’t dig into the source of the differences. I would guess though that it’s not related. One things that is new in Snow Leopard, for example, is its ability to show icons up to 512 pixels while Leopard only allowed up until 128. I don’t know why the background support doesn’t work, thogh. I don’t think there are any new options in Snow Leopard with regards to it.
